We work on a small number of projects which allows us to get to understand the businesses intimately and develop a close working relationship with the shareholders and directors.
Our typical clients are often either already backed by institutional equity funds or have a desire to raise finance from external sources.
Our knowledge of the funding markets and the key players has assisted our clients in raising a total of £100 million in capital from more than 105 different institutions as well as numerous private investors over the last decade and a half.
Our approach is that of commercially-minded, finance professionals – in that order. We recognise that, unless the business is allowed to develop in a commercial fashion, there is no business. Nevertheless, there are key financial controls that are required in all businesses, especially those that are growing rapidly. We ensure that the appropriate level of controls are put in place.
Alastair Walmsley
Alastair founded AWCL in 2003 and since then he has worked with 19 SME’s in the role of part-time “on demand” CFO. Many of those clients have grown to become highly successful growing business and undertaken numerous funding rounds with Alastair’s assistance.
Prior to AWCL, Alastair worked as a professional adviser with PwC, as Group CFO for a publicly listed company and as a senior team member assessing early stage opportunities with an entrepreneurial private equity fund.
Alastair has developed a consistent and proven approach to helping numerous early stage, high growth technology businesses, management team and investors in this sector.
Outside of the work environment, Alastair is a keen skier and golfer with a passion for wine (drunk responsibly)!
